ITT: Stupid fucks that don't know what they're talking about...try to discuss the "console wars" analytically.
What does VGH think about Nintendo's future strategies? Everyone's always bitching on about Sony and Microsoft.

They'll succeed, but at the expense of the harcore gamer.

You predict that this will result in a future generation of video gaming where everything is a piece of shit mini-game, since that's all that sells?
|

Pretty much.

Sounds like the future sucks balls.

That's because it does.

What will happen to PC gaming?

It will either die, or more shooters will be produced.

I don't think that we'll ever stop seeing SHOOTAN GAEMS. They'll just get more and more generic until the genre dies.

It will never die. People keep buying them.

Then people will keep buying xxxcore games on consoles, and your vision of the future is wrong.

Not of other companies follow the direction Nintendo takes.

I've been a Nintendo fan for a while, but this generation the Wii isn't getting many games more hardcore than "Wand Simulator". The few good ones look great, but it's obvious their main audience is parents who need something embarrassingly easy to be convinced by their kids.

Am I the only one who thinks this generation sucks as a whole? One system has few exclusives and is expensive as fuck, one has plenty of games, but is doomed to RRoD, and the other has great potential that is being wasted. You're getting screwed no matter what.

It sucks, definently.

The last time I really cared about what Nintendo was doing was in there SNES days. They lost me with the N64. I don't really care what they do anymore. The Wii will continue to sell to the non gamers as long as its seen as popular and cool. But that customer isn't going to keep buying games. The thing Nintendo needs to sell more than consoles.
I don't want to say that I grew up and left Nintendos franchises behind. In a sense I guess I did. I mean what really turned me on to the PS1 was that the games were appealing to me at the age I was at during that time. Nintendo didn't make the shift. Thats not to say I didn't find there games fun. I had alot of fun with Mario 64. But very few things in the N64 age that they did interested me.
I can go back and play old nintendo games. The ones I liked as a kid. But the new stuff? Meh. I don't really care. I try them out. But they do nothing for me.
About two years into the Gamecube's life I bought one. I kept it for a year and a half then sold it. I haven't regretted that decision at all. Even though for the most part I hold onto all my systems.
I really miss the days when "shooters" meant games like Raiden, R-Type, Gradius, etc. Not FPS. Every so often a FPS comes along that I like. That I want to play. But it rarely happens. And when it does I usually prefer it for the PC.
This generation does suck so far. Theres a few games that I wouldnt mind having. But none are must have games.
I bought a PS3 because I got a good deal on it from a friend. My launch PS2 was finally starting to die. So I use the PS3 for PS2 games. Because it does a great job upscaling PS2 games so they don't look like crap on a HDTV. Oh and Blu-Ray is kinda cool.
The console "war" is stupid. fanboys are stupid. They whole thing is stupid really. I just want to play the games the I like. I don't care which system they're on as long as I get to play them. All three are big corporations just trying to make a buck. So if one fails and leaves the market it doesn't matter to me. Because none of them really make any games that I care so deeply about that I gotta buy their system just to get it.
The third parties is where its at for me. So if one system fails they'll just make there way to a system that hasn't.

Meh, I liked the N64. It was the GC when Ninty took a nosedive.

Nintendo 64 kicked ass. But, yeah, I've pretty much disagreed with everything that Nintendo's done since then.
Also, WoogyCakes, that was a surprisingly intelligent post for these boards. You should get a medal or something.

I could never figure out why people thought the N64 "kicks ass". Is it just because thats what you had when you were younger and there for the memories of it make it kick ass ?(understandable) Are you a blind Nintendo fanboy who doesn't want to see what else is/was out there? (get out from under the rock) Or...Do you like $70 games with a limited amount of space for data, making manufacturing costs more than the competitors formats causing certain developers to jump ship to the cheaper CD format, uncomfortable controllers, a cheap feeling analog stick, and a company telling you that 4 controller ports and analog sticks are "innovative" even though the Atari 5200 had both when it came out in 1982?(dumb)
analog control with 3D games was great. Sony quickly followed suit. Which was fine with me. We live in a copycat world, and very few companies are innocent of this. But I thought Sony did a better job implementing the analog just because to me the controller felt better in my hand when I was using it.
There were a few games I enjoyed on the N64. But it consists of about 4 or 5 games.
Mario 64
Wave Race 64
Ogre Battle 64
Golden Eye
Beetle Adventure Racing
I had the ability to "borrow" many N64 games during its time. But I just never found many to be very good and worth the extra money that a N64 cartridge cost at the time.
and on top of all that the N64 looked very childish. Like a toy.
