These are the basic instructions to raise Chao
When you first enter Chao World, go straight. You should enter the Normal Chao Garden. Look around for two (2) eggs. Those are Chao eggs. To make them hatch, Pick it up and either throw it or hold Y and move the control stick. Doing either will HUGLY afect it's personalaty.
Once it hatches, pick up the chao. you should notice a mini-screen of to the left or right of your character. Those are skills. To raise a chao's skils, bring it animals or chaos drives found in the stages. Simply walk to your chao while holding an animal or chaos drive and it will take it.
You do the same with feeding them. Look around for a tree. Walk up to it, push B, and move the control stick to shake the fruit out. Not only does it make your chao happy, it also raises it's stanima, one of the skills.
